FACILITIES THAT HELP MAKE ALAYA WORK
Sunshine Coast Hinterland private retreat —
float tank, Finnish sauna, thermal therapy,
complete rainforest privacy.
THE FACILITIES
Magnesium Float Tank
400-500kg pharmaceutical-grade salts. Australian-made Apollo system. Complete sensory stillness.
Finnish Red Cedar Sauna
Traditional outdoor sauna. 100-110°C. Red cedar construction. Mountain views
Hot/Cold Thermal Therapy
Cedar hot tub and cold plunge. Hot/cold contrast. Nervous system regulation.
Mountain Environment / Private Bungalows
2.5 acres. 450m elevation. Tropical rainforest. Running water. Bird calls. Complete privacy. 4 private bungalows. Spa bath. Fireplace. Mountain environment. Your pace.
I use these every week myself.
Because they peel back the layers. Completely decompress you.
Sleep better. Think clearer.
Make sense of the nonsense.
You don’t have to use any of it.
Some people arrive and never touch
the facilities — they just want
the mountain and the quiet.
Both are enough.

THE SAUNA — 105°C
The magic doesn’t necessarily happen while you’re in there.
It happens when you walk to the pool to cool off and your
brain immediately shifts state — almost involuntarily — to change your temperature.
You leave the pool walking sideways. Giddy.
Return to the sauna. Then the cold plunge.

THE COLD PLUNGE

This one is not easy initially.
The first 40 seconds can be intense — the cold screams at you.
But with the right mindset, leaning into it rather than fighting it, something happens that is difficult to describe.
You check out.
Somewhere else entirely.
I have caught myself repeatedly returning to present awareness and genuinely not knowing where I was.
Bizarre. Absolutely addictive.
Research suggests contrast therapy — alternating heat and cold — produces measurable shifts in autonomic nervous system regulation.
What it actually feels like is something the research doesn’t capture.
After about six minutes in the plunge, you get out and head to the pool.
THE POOL — AFTER THE PLUNGE
It is no longer a pool.
The water feels strangely too warm — skin temperature, 34.5°C — and you feel pleasantly separate from it.
Weightless. Hovering.
I back up against the waterfall and the same response moves through me every time —
“I am the luckiest man in the world.”
I have conditioned myself to this across hundreds of sessions.
Same sequence. Same response.
The brain’s automatic answer to a state it recognises.
Similar to what the float produces.
Different path. Same destination.
THE MAGNESIUM FLOAT TANK
We use enormous energy holding our bodies against gravity. We use enormous energy thinking.
The float tank removes both simultaneously.
400 kilograms of pharmaceutical-grade magnesium salts. Australian-made Apollo system.
Complete sensory stillness. In that weightlessness and silence, something happens that most people
have forgotten is even possible — the same sensation as drifting into deep sleep, that feeling of
dropping, before you catch yourself.
That is the state we are reaching for.
Research suggests 30 minutes in this state is equivalent to several hours of deep REM sleep.
Most people experience time distortion — they genuinely do not know how long they have been floating.
The magnesium absorbs through your skin.
You will sleep tonight in a way you haven’t in a long time.
Float after sauna and cold plunge and the experience is different again — deeper, faster, more complete.
ADD A MASSAGE

Good luck doing anything that night apart from drooling whilst holding your head up.
The deepest sleep you’ve had in recent memory is waiting.
———
Positive addictions should be cultivated.
This is one of mine.
I built this place so other people could experience what I experience twice a week.
That is the honest reason this exists.
THE MOUNTAIN

450 metres up. The noise doesn’t follow.
Temperature drops as you climb.
The air changes. Something in your
nervous system registers the altitude
before your mind catches up.
20 minutes from Mooloolaba beaches,
Montville and Maleny.
70 minutes from Brisbane.
Close enough to reach easily.
Far enough that the world below
feels distant.

THE ENVIRONMENT
2.5 acres. Balinese rainforest gardens.
Running water. Bird calls.
Complete privacy.
We collect mountain rainwater,
filter it, drink it.
Some people swear it makes
their hair softer.
You’ll feel it when you’re here.
