About Alaya Ascend
Sunshine Coast Hinterland Retreat
"You'll feel it when you drive up. Everyone does.."
WHY WE BUILT THIS
Anything you do is everything you do — I learned that young. Hardship has a way of making things very clear, very fast, and the way forward, as I saw it, was to do work that made a difference and to build a place where other people could find what I had to fight for. After a long road in education, mining, business and healthcare, that place became this one.
The word Alaya means sacred abode, a state known as sublime.
Ascend is what happens when you decide to prioritise yourself, even briefly.
Most people arrive having put themselves last for too long, running on the business of busyness until something quietly gives way. We developed this retreat into what it is now for one reason — to remedy that.

WHAT WE LEARNED: YEAR 3
Individual restoration had to come first.
Around year three, something became undeniable.
1. People could not reconnect to what mattered to them – whether that was a partner, a purpose or peace of mind – until they had first restored themselves. Every single time.
2. The ones who tried to skip ahead got nowhere. Individual restoration had to come first.
That was the pattern, watched across more than 4,000 people now, and it shaped everything about how we run this place.

So good to find a gem in the Sunshine Coast where you can unwind and rejuvenate in a tropical paradise the gardens are so peaceful and relaxing the beautiful cabins set in the trees over looking the pool with the sounds of waterfalls. Bed super comfy very generous breakfast hamper provided and the spa bath was amazing. Thank you Craig for a wonderful stay I will definitely be back and recommend to my friends
ALAYA ASCEND OWNERS
CRAIG, MOLLY, THE GIRLS & 'THE BROWN'
I’m the maverick — big picture, building things, connecting with people.
Craig meets you at the car, bags carried, nobody gets lost, and I probably make some terrible joke about keeping the sauna and the dog if my wife kicks me out.
Molly’s better at knowing when to leave people alone. I chat too much probably.

Molly makes this place look and feel the way it does. She fills it with that special touch a mongrel like me just doesn’t have — the float room prepared before you arrive, the bungalow details you notice without knowing why, the gardens, the arrangement, the provisions in the fridge. She’s a full-time high school teacher who somehow also makes four bungalows feel like they were prepared specifically for you.
Scarlett and Indigo grew up here in the mountains. The Brown Dog — killer Staffy — lives here too. Molly and I have been together over twenty years, and people who came a decade ago still come back — as friends who happen to stay in one of our bungalows. This is our home. You’ll feel that when you arrive.
We could have built a dozen rooms. Four means it is personable, intimate, your experience gets the attention it deserves. I know your name before you arrive and I understand why you are here.

Please come and find your peace. Alaya is amazing. You can't help but leave your best self. You will be welcomed from booking till checkout. It would be hard to find a better place to relax and let go while you nourish your mind, body and soul. This time I was solo, next time I will bring my husband. Don't forget to book sauna and float tank. The massage following was next level.
Private luxury bungalow. Provisions hamper. Complete freedom.
Cortisol and heart rate variability return toward baseline around the 72-hour mark. Cognitive scientists call it the 3 Day Effect
— the point where the mind actually quiets rather than just slows down. We’ve watched it happen 4,000 times.
